The betrayed partner is not responsible for the sex addict‘s recovery. She did not bring about the situation and so she‘s not required to fix the situation. What she needs is to focus on getting safe, stable, and being able to deal with her new reality.

It’s common for betrayed partners to feel responsible for their sex addict spouse or partner’s acting out. They might believe that they weren’t enough, that they failed to meet their partner’s needs, or that something they did drove their partner to sexual addiction. This misplaced self-blame is a natural response to trying to make sense of the betrayal. However, it is important to understand that the addiction is not their fault. Sexual addiction stems from deep-seated issues within the addict, often unrelated to the partner’s actions or behaviors.
